What Character.AI described

The company says its CAI-Image models, adapted from the open-source Qwen-Image, power Comics and its Imagine features. Its stated priorities include recognizable characters across scenes and styles, multiple characters, poses, and camera choices. In a September 2 post, Character.AI explained that Comics can begin with a recent chat or a written premise and selected characters, then extend across pages. Our view: continuity is part of the story

In text, a sentence can tell us that a character hesitates. In panels, that pause needs a place in the sequence. Which face do we see? Does the response happen before or after someone puts down a letter? Those choices can change how a reader understands the same exchange.

Consider this original fictional example with two adults. A museum curator offers a visiting illustrator a recovered sketchbook. The illustrator asks whether a folded note is still inside. The curator turns to the last page before answering.

One possible panel sequence would be:

• A wider view establishes the two people and the sketchbook between them.
• A closer view shows the illustrator asking about the note.
• A view of the open book holds the pause before the curator's reply.

The sequence gives attention to a small action. Showing the note too early could remove the uncertainty; skipping the page turn could lose the hesitation. This is our text-only illustration of a storytelling choice, not a generated comic or a demonstration of Character.AI's output.

Questions to ask of a visual story format

We would assess a scene through three reader questions: Can I follow who is speaking? Can I tell what happened first? Does the visual emphasis preserve the moment I cared about? Recognizable character appearance helps, but a readable sequence also needs clear actions and pacing.

Editorial control is another question to investigate: what can a person revise when a panel changes the meaning of an exchange? This article does not establish how much control the current product provides. A visual version may be appealing for one scene while you prefer leaving another in prose.
